A Late Start

We were prepped and ready to go.  The gear was all packed the food was prepared and waiting to be thrown into the coolers at the very last minute.  The house was clean, or as clean as it was going to get.  We just finished baking the oatmeal cookies and rice krispy treats and were just waiting for our dad to get home from work.  I had turned over my work phone yesterday so I got in the tub to soak and relax, just waiting for the call to say he was on his way home.

Dan had to deliver some thank you cards to the kids in his primary class but just afterwards, we left the house at about 4:45 and had to stop to add air to the boat tires.  That was our first stop.  We knew we had to stop in Evanston, Wyoming to get the boat decontamination certificate but we hadn't planned on the boaters at the first of the line up to have a dead battery.  That was the second stop and wait while someone gave the poor guys boat a jump.  Then when we stopped at the Mountain View Drive In for our third stop, we stayed and had dinner.  Chloe had a foot long hotdog, Seth had two ostrich sized chicken strips, Dad had a double cheeseburger and I had a jalapeƱo burger.  It took forever to cook.  The men's restroom was out of order so we figured this was Wyoming's way of answering the transgender bathroom issue.

We reached Manilla, Utah at about 8:45 and pulled into the KOA there but it was a bust.  There was a playground and pool but the grassy 'camp sites' were right on top of each other.  The kids were super excited but I vetoed the idea of camping in a parking lot.  So much to their wails of despair, we drove on.  We drove past Sheep Creek Bay.  We drove past the Red Canyon Lodge.  We drove past the Flaming Gorge Resort.  We drove on to Cedar Springs arriving around 9:30 and searching in the dark for a camp site that wasn't reserved, that could fit the truck and boat with out unhitching the trailer, and was nearish to a bathroom/outhouse.  At 10:30 we found a pull through site at the Skull Creek Camp Ground and had the tent set up and gear unloaded and were in bed by 11:30 PM
